Workpackage 1 - Scenarios and Requirements
Scenarios play an important role in the OMEGA project. They try to capture the project's vision in terms of the user experience. Work in WP1 revolves around scenarios in several key directions (as shown on the right) and is structured in tasks as follows:
- Task 1.1 Services and scenarios. The goal of this task is to establish the first steps towards the collection of high level requirements. In a first stage, new scenarios are proposed, each one being representative of future Gigabit HAN usage. In a second stage, the scenarios are refined and individual services are identified. It is also important to identify the Quality of Experience (QoE) of these services expected by final users. Focus groups will be organized to capture a qualitative feedback of these services. Another subtask is the physical description of houses and apartments where these services could be deployed. This will influence the network topology and will be an input to other WPs.
- Task 1.2 Requirements. The goal of this task is to identify technology-independent requirements that will serve as input to other technical WPs (WP2-WP6). From this input, the technical WPs will derive low level requirements and asses technological feasibility. An iterative process is needed to ensure a common view among all WPs.
- Task 1.3 Techno-economic studies. The goal of this task is to define technically, economically and socially viable business scenarios. Since economic analysis often ignores important technical aspects of telecommunications, this activity will aim to bridge the gap between these domains and to foster interaction and collaboration between them. The expected output of this task is to provide recommendation and guidelines that will support the strategies of industry players (operators, vendors, service providers, etc.) regarding HAN dynamics and business models.
