Workpackage 6 - Architecture, Security & Continuity of Services
Workpackage 6 is dealing with overall mechanisms of operation of the OMEGA network. Workpackage 6 is composed of three Tasks:
- Task 6.1 Architecture. This task achieves first a functional analysis of the components of the OMEGA network and details the allocation of the functions according to the data, control and management plane. The main options of the OMEGA architecture are underlined and an architecture reference model is proposed. In a further step the impact of the end-to-end architecture functions on the OMEGA network is identified : the distribution of functions between the OMEGA customer network and the operator network is studied. In line with that topic, one of the purposes of the OMEGA architecture is to highlight how the evolutions expected in the access network may impact the operation of the OMEGA Home.
- Task 6.2 Security. The OMEGA context raises the questions of Encryption, Authentication and Key Management procedures, and of the Trust and Privacy Policy to apply in a multi-node multi-technology mesh architecture. On the basis of the modelling of use/misuse scenarios, the overall approach consists in starting from the security specifications for the OMEGA network, in order to focus afterwards to the Trusted OMEGA network environment at the devices level and to an OMEGA Access Control mechanism. The ambition is also to elaborate a security monitoring technique providing live monitoring of the trust levels for OMEGA devices.
- Task 6.3 Continuity of Services. The continuity of services considered here for the OMEGA home covers three complementary aspects. The first one (intra-home continuity of services) concerns two different use cases : the possibility for the client to access a service from different classes of devices of the home in a transparent way (intra-home interactivity), and the continuity of services while the user is roaming between different physical accesses (management of intra-home mobility). The second aspect is related to the possibility to introduce some continuity between boxes of different homes of a residential area or a building of flats (inter-home continuity). The goal of the third point is to ensure the interoperability of the OMEGA network with different emerging access networks (access network continuity). The purpose of the task is to highlight the architecture constraints and specifications related to these three aspects, and to determine the associated mechanisms.
